Ringety Ring

I've been busy.  Making rings.

I've bored you to death before about my obsession with buttons.  You know, the way I like to gaze at them adoringly and run my fingers through them in a slightly crazed way?  Well, dear readers,  I've pulled myself together and I've actually been making button rings.

A red button ring:

Don't be too distracted by my old biddy hands now, will you?
Two blue button rings:

I'm very pleased with them, I have to say.  Soooo easy to do.  The only disaster I had was with my absolute favourite big red wooden button which, I realised too late, was far too heavy for the ring base.  Although it seemed stuck fast, it wasn't and it fell off in Sainsbury's car park never to be seen again.  Boo hoo!

Inspired by Lakota's and Desiree's lego loveliness, I've also been raiding Little Miss J and P's lego stash and lo and behold, look what I've done:

Little Miss J and P is the hand model here

Yay, a lego ring!

And if you like one that's a bit bigger (ooh er missus):

Do you know what the best thing about lego rings is?  You can play with them.  Big time.

Liking the pink lego a lot

Some people just don't know when to stop do they?

Wowser! A very big octopus.

Harry Potter

Ron Weasely (looks stunningly like Mr J and P when he was a ickle boy)

So much fun.  You should try it. xxxxx

The Joy of Buttons

I enjoyed a very pleasant Saturday afternoon recently playing with my buttons.

I know how to live, don't I?

I spent a great deal of  time: running my fingers through my collection of buttons:

gasping with wonderment and awe at the cornucupia of colours and styles

and squealing with excitement when I came across ones I'd forgotten I had.

Mr J and P has just read what I've written and says that he's a little worried that people might think I'm stark raving bonkers.  I told him that he shouldn't worry as my readers know exactly what I'm on about when it comes to buttons.  We love our buttons don't we?

Anyway, before I come across as being completely insane, I didn't just spend all my time idly stroking my buttons.  Not me.  I actually managed to make something with them.

I found some thin stretchy elastic lurking in the sewing box and with the help of a tutorial from youtube (I used this one here ) I made button bracelets.

Bracelet number one:

Bracelet number two is quite possibly my favourite.  Made with these larger and textured buttons, they look a little like flowers to my (delusional) mind:

Bracelet number three, in bright colours, for Little Miss J and P:

If you want a quick crafty fix that even a simpleton can muster, then I can assure you that button bracelets are the way forward.

Happy weekend everyone! xx

Button up

Now, dear readers, I'm not going to talk to you about the snow and how flipping cold it is and the state of the nation's pavements (they are like ice rinks).  Nor am I going to talk about how our boiler has broken down and we have no heating or hot water for the foreseeable future.  Nor am I going to talk about Christmas - prep, decs, prezzies or otherwise.

No, dear readers,  I am going to talk about buttons.  Get a load of these little beauties that Mr J and P brought back from a recent charity shopping spree.

Didn't he do well?

So, what have I done with these buttons?  Well, I've come over all crafty and I've decorated a couple of very plain IKEA frames with them.  Wanna see?

This one has all green buttons complete with a green gingham embellishment!

What do you think?  I spent rather a long time playing with the different colour and style combinations.  In fact, I have to say that playing with them was the best bit!

Such fun!  I heartily recommend this craft project.  It's incredibly easy and very satisfying.

The photos I chose to put in the frames were suitably vintage - old ones of my mum. I do like looking at old black and white photos.  Everyone always looks so elegant and beautifully dressed.

Love the bouffant in the one above.  Note the screaming child (me).  I remember that occasion very well; wasn't very keen on those pigeons!

Love my mum's sunglasses in the one below and the jaunty little neckerchief:

The one below is of my mum on her wedding day.  The coat was blue mohair, she had a blue feather fascinator in her hair and matching blue suede shoes.  I remember those shoes very well as she eventually gave them to me but for the life of me I can't remember what happened to them (boo hoo).

Well dear readers, I'll love you and leave you.  I need to move around as I'm in danger of turning into an icicle sat here.  Keep warm everyone (sob).
