Material Girl

I was cockahoop after Saturday's jumble sale as I managed to bag rather a lot of material - some old, some not so old.  Feast your eyes on these:

As you can see, I even managed to find yet another candy stripe sheet - hoorah!

I love this blue floral number.  Unfortunately, every photo I took of the darn thing was blurred.

The colours of the 1960s dress fabric on the left show up much better in the first photo above - rust with flecks of yellow.  The fabric on the right reminds me of Morrocan tiles:

This one is very cute, little black and yellow vases with pretty flowers:

A large piece of crimplene:

But not just any old crimplene:

Mary Quant Crimplene - no less

I bought the fabric in a bundle with other stuff so each item cost about 30p.  I think I'll start searching for easy peasy dress making patterns.  I fancy making a simple top, ideally one which does-up with a single button at the back.  Watch this space, folks.

As well as being materially blessed, I also found this Ben Sherman Limited edition shirt with deliberately distressed images of The Beatles - 20p:

I love this cheerful St Michael scarf and on the right is a cheerful yellow chiffon one.  Back in the day, I used to wear my mum's chiffon scarves in my hair together with 1950s dresses that I used to pick up at jumbles!

A 60s dress suit which actually fits me:

You can just about see the pretty detail on the bodice:

Look at the latest edition to my wooden handled utensil collection.  YAY!!  A yellow one.  Thank you to everyone who suggested ways of displaying them particularly as some of them haven't a hanging hole.  I think I may go for a magnetic strip when I get a few more.  The Portmeirion mug (50p) was probably my favourite buy.

Mr J and P nabbed these (4 for a £1) to add to our small collection of  Observer Books.  I must say, though, the book of Commercial Vehicles doesn't exactly thrill me to the marrow.  Almost as scintilating as my Ladybook book of The History of Plastics that I bought the other week.

A 50s gold lurex evening purse in perfect nick and a sweet purse with folksy dancers on it (I like a bit of folksy) - a souvenir from Sardinia (20p each):

Well, that's all folks.  Have a good week, bargain seekers near and far!

  33. Since I read this post, I've been actively looking out for local jumble sales and, do you know, there aren't any that I've seen.

I have seen table top sales but they're not quite the same. And school fairs aren't what they used to be when I was little. They're more about outside companies coming in with their own wares, rather than the treasures that you managed to pick up.

    Well, I will keep looking.

    Sarahx
