California Dreaming

Aaaah the Mamas and Papas - don't you just love em?

But I digress, dear readers, as the main aim of this post is to announce that California Dreaming is about to become a reality for the J and P family. Yes, folks, we're off on our hols. To California! How exciting is that!

Our first stop will be San Francisco and I'm sooooo excited as I intend to visit a good few thrift and goodwill stores while I'm there. Just look at these fine examples of thrift store interiors:

Racks and shelves and aisle of STUFF. Oh I can't wait. Mr J and P is muttering something which sounds like "I am not flying all the way to San Francisco just to go charity shopping." Let's ignore him shall we, dear readers?

From San Francisco, we go to Yosemite Valley and then southwards to places like the Joshua Tree National Park, Pallisade Glacier, Mohave Desert. From the interior, we head to the coast and travel back north to San Fran.

Hope we don't see these critters on our travel in the wilds of California:

a black bear.

a mountain lion (apparently, more than half of California is mountain lion habitat - lawks a lordy!).

Mr J and P is insisting we visit Death Valley. Frankly, I'm not keen, as, according to the guide book, it is the hottest place on earth (yikes...)! Mr J and P is now trying to tell me that Death Valley is one big charity shop - ha ha ha, now he's being just plain silly.

On that note, I'll love you and leave you. Hope you have a great summer, dear readers. Missing you already.......

  1. Hope you have a lovely time and you get to go to the charity shops. Do you have room in your case for a little one - me......?
    Julie xxxxxxxxxx

  2. Just tell your hubby it must be called Death Valley for a reason......Now in a nice charity shop he'll be completely safe.

  3. We're from the San Francisco Bay area, you'll love it. Have been to Death Valley and if you go in summer you'll know why it has its name. Love Yosemite it will be VERY crowded in the summer, people have to make reservations to camp and they control how many people are in the park at a given time.

    Have fun.

  4. I'm so jealous! I've always wanted to go to San Francisco and check out Haight Astbury.
The thrift stores look incredible. You'd better threaten Mr JandP with that scary bear if he doesn't let you go shopping.
Miss you already! Have a fantastic trip. xxx

  5. Oh my...I have never ever been stateside. This looks fantastic...and would you just look at those Thrift Stores! Have a fantastic trip. I am so looking forward to seeing some thrifty finds. x

  7. Have a great holiday!...and look out for those mountain lions!

"See" ya when you get back x

  8. What an adventure for you! When are you leaving? I can't wait to see what you unearth!

  9. YAY you're going to California!! I lived in L.A. for four years, not sure if you're going that far south or not. Look for "Thrift Town" in San Francisco proper, it's 2 stories of goodness! Also try to find the Alameda Flea Market, not sure if it will be the same time you'll be there or not:

  10. Your holiday sounds fantastic! Those thrift stores look amazing and I'm properly jealous. Hope you have a fabulous time.

Thanks for the comment. I will get some candle pics up on my blog so you will be able to see them at some point.

  11. I love the idea of thrift shopping overseas! Hope you have a fabulous time!

  12. What a fantastic trip,I too would be excited about those huge thrift stores, I'd take a couple of empty cases!Linda:)

  13. WOW... lucky you, enjoy your holiday and we expect a full report on the goodies you find in those thrift stores.
    Take care.

  14. You are so lucky!!! Please take me with you!!! I want to go to the charity shops too!!!! Boohooo its not fair I am so jealous!!! Hope you all have a fabulous time!!xxx

  15. Love the mamas and papas :) xxxx

  16. Have a great time on vacation! Hope you find some good stuff at the thrift stores. You can always buy some extra suitcases while you're in one of them so you'll have room for all your loot. Watch out for the bears. There's been a few bear attack reports on TV recently.

  17. Oh my goodness, I cannot begin to tell you how jealous I am. Lucky you, San Fran is number one on my places to visit. Just look at the size of the charity shops! Heaven!
And then you are going to see so many wonders, Yosemite, Joshua Tree....oh I can't cope.
I hope you have the bestest of times. Much love x

  18. all the leaves are brown
    and the skies are grey
    I've been for a walk
    on a winter's day

Mmm. Lucky it's midsummer really. Be a pity to go all that way for THAT sort of weather.

Have lots of fun and remember not to tread on the cracks or those bears really will get you...

  19. I am laughing out loud at your husband's comments. We are located in the U.S. While on holiday in the UK, I hunted down every charity shop I could find! Rather than mapping out all of the museums and attractions, I had marked each and every charity shop I could find! I had such fun and many treasures were brought back over the pond!

  20. WOW, the trip of a lifetime, have a great time and those thrift stores look fab.
    Jo xx

  21. oh thrifty charity heaven, cant wait to see what you come back with, have a lovely time, fliss xxx
