Plonked

Do you remember what I said in my last post about stalking the bric-a-brac tables at jumble sales?  Just in case you missed my *cough* sage words *cough*, I did mention that it was worthwhile revisiting the bric-a-brac tables at jumbles because helpers sometimes put out extra stuff or you simply just miss seeing something good the first time around.

Well, on my second trawl around the bric-a-brac tables recently,  I found not one

not two

not three

but six of these little beauties.  For my collection.  All for 30p.

Massively exciting, I know you'll agree.  But my problem has always been how to display them.   I've seen on the internet that some people hang them on walls but we just haven't got the wall space in our kitchen.

From here

Some pop them into frames but then you've got the problem of finding suitable frames and we've still got the lack of wall space issue.

From here

Some pop them into interesting looking receptacles:

I had originally plonked them (and when I say plonked, I really mean plonked) in a vintage aluminium measuring jug that I picked up from the Guides Bazaar for 50p:

But now that I've got so many of the darn things, the jug just won't do.

So I got this basket from here (a tenner) and plonked (there's that word again) in it my now, rather large collection of utensils.

Not the most beautifully displayed, I know, but what is a body to do!  Mr J and P says that I'm a basket case.  I'm ignoring him, and not for the first time....xx

  1. Plonked is a good word, I use it all the time! How about one of those trays you put in draw for knives and forks etc. Then they could sorted by colour or by utensil. Its a great collection and to got the set too.

  7. Oh I find ignoring the foolishness of men is always the best way. They know nowt. Especially about the glory of a vintage kitchen utensil! Beautifully plonked, my dear!
PS. I have 2 jumbles to go to tomorrow (may only manage one, bloody kids and their social lives might prove obstructive for the first one... But I will remember your sage advice and take a couple of turns past the bric-a-brac! xxxxx

  8. Better to be a basket case than a plonker!
I do like the idea of displaying them in a frame, that is a good idea.

  11. Oh I love these! WHAT A GLORIOUS FIND!
I have a fascination for vintage mixers. I hung them from the hanging pot rack. And then I was asked if I really need that many mixers???
YES I DO!!! How the heck are we to know if there will ever be a mixer shortage in the world!?

  22. Oh my goodness aren't they wonderful! I have vintage utensil envy!!! I once found a lovely vintage red handled rolling pin at a boot fair and then i stupidly ruined it by washing it!!!! The paint went funny even though I never left it to soak - I was so cross with myself!
You have amassed an impressive collection there and they look really good in the basket.

  23. I would never have thought to collect these utensils but they are actually rather wonderful, and I love that basket you have gathered them in. So colourful. I'm guessing you actually use them, so putting them in a frame wouldn't work, I think you've done the right thing!
