Recently, A Thrifty Mrs wrote about making things just for the fun of it and not worrying too much about it being perfect. As she says "Ditch perfection and get excited about crafting again.". Well I've literally taken her at her word.
I've always liked a bit of gluing and sticking. So when I found this dull looking photo frame recently at the jumble sale (50p),
I remembered my vintage sheet fabric scraps which I couldn't bear to throw away (I know, I'm a nutter)
and started gluing them onto the frame like so.
Until the whole darn frame was covered.
I wrapped the ends and glued them down at the back, varnished and added a teeny tiny pompom trimming
and a picture of Little Miss J and P.
Lo and behold it's an imperfect, slightly cack-handed vintage sheet embellished photo frame!
As Somerset Maugham once said:
Yeah, too right bruv.
Ta-dahing with my homies over at Lakota's. Yo!
It's awesome, I love it! And the pompom trim just takes it to another dimension! Very cool picture of lil Miss J&P too.

Gah, ignore me - just having issues with the linky. Apologies. As you were!
ReplyDeleteit's bloomin' marvellous! Looks perfect to me, though do love that quote. Such a good way to use up those teeny scraps too - I'd never chuck them out either xx
ReplyDeleteNo it's not! It's absolutely gorgeous! I saw a similar thing in a magazine but she'd used a huge oval mirror frame. I love it!
ReplyDeleteYou could never be dull Loo, perfectionist or not!
ReplyDeleteOooh, how clever! This is lovely Loo!
ReplyDeleteI like your style! What a lovely idea.

Wow, I love it, great idea sweetie :)
ReplyDeleteBee happy x
Lovely idea.....you need to always use up the scraps! :) x
ReplyDeleteFlippin' heck, if that's cack-handed ... well let's just say it looks like perfection to me and I love the beautiful, happy B&W photo you've put in the frame. It really sets off all those wonderful mixed colours! xo
ReplyDeletelove it! by the way,im a huge believer in wonky sewing, scrappy patching and freestyle knitting.imperfections in art remind us that it was made by real people! great pic in frame as well xxx
ReplyDeleteWhat a fab idea, it looks blooming marvelous...x
ReplyDeleteNow that's a clever idea. I've got loads of old frames kicking around and some even smaller fabric scraps than yours - hate throwing anything away. This looks great!
ReplyDeleteLove your cack handedness - I have never heard this phrase being used by anyone else but our family. My Dad always told me that I was cack handed (I am left handed). Do you come from the Midlands by any chance? Anyway your frame is great and a super way of using up scraps. I think that in magazines cack handed is known as 'arty'
ReplyDeleteBest wishes
Jenny
That's great! I can understand the need not to throw any bits of that lovely fabric away - so you're not alone!
ReplyDeleteJune
I love it. Another good reason never to throw any vintage loveliness away, no matter how small! M x
ReplyDeleteNot cack-handed at all (we use that phrase too!) It's a great use of those pretty fabric scraps and the frame looks lovely. Cool photo too! xxx
ReplyDeleteExcellent! Well done - it looks great. x
ReplyDeleteCack-handed? It's brilliant, I love it and the photo. Love Somerset Maugham too.
ReplyDeleteWe call my Mum 'cack-handed' because she is left handed (that's why I can't knit because she taught me the wrong way round!!). This is a great idea for a frame. I saw a similar bigger version with an old mirror and a notice board. Oooo the creative juices are flowing! Take care. Chel x
ReplyDeleteTruly an original work of art, love it!
ReplyDeleteWell done for thinking about it and then just doing it. I think it looks fabulous.
The pom pom edging finishes it off so well.

I always substitute the words 'cack handed' with 'bespoke' - and I have a lot of bespoke items! Another lovely and very effective idea x Jane
ReplyDeleteLove it! Might just try something similar myself ... Über- inspirational, m'dear! :)
ReplyDeleteooh - I love it. Fabulous!!!
ReplyDeleteNikki x
Such a cool idea and you executed it to perfection!
DeleteGreat final results and the most important it when from dull to bright!
It's so pretty! Perfection is over-rated. I slaved over a handmade Valentine for my hunny and I know he was touched by my **attempt** at perfection, which ended up being, of course, the farthest thing from perfection! Xo
ReplyDeleteFantastic idea, Loo! I could do with some of these to match the lampshade and curtains! x
ReplyDeleteGreat idea, I have so many scraps of material and now I know what to do with them x
ReplyDeleteHoly awesomeness, this is GORGEOUS! I love this brilliant idea.
ReplyDeleteSarah xxx
Gorgeous, i did the same with an old lampshade a couple of months ago and that wasn't perfect either but crafting should be fun and at the end of the day its made with love which is far more important :-) dee x
ReplyDeleteLoo, I'm Loving it, nothing dull about that little piece of perfection!!!
ReplyDeleteDaisy j

ReplyDeleteI'm sure I would just be sitting twiddling my thumbs if it were not for the blogs.
