It's curtains for my vintage linens

I've been collecting embroidered tray cloths for a while now.  The plan was to make a patchwork cushion cover with them a la Cath Kidston:

Only I realised I had far too many for one little cushion.  I even had two embroidered tablecloths to play with.  I never used the tablecloths, pretty though they were.  I'm far too much of a domestic slattern to spend time ironing the buggers.

Sooooooooooo, I laid out all the cloths, pinned them together in a pleasing stylee and sewed them up.

Lo and behold I've only gone and made a curtain panel:

Mr Fusspot J and P complained that it was a bit dark with the panel closed:

So I found a bit of lace, tied it like so

and voila! Let there be light (sort of):

Little Miss J and P thinks it looks "odd".  There's nothing like your beloved family to poo-poo one's creative leanings.....

Oh well, perhaps a holiday might put the J and Ps in a better mood.  Yes, we're off to Holland to camp for a few days and then we'll visit our friends in the south.  Yay.  Cannot wait.  See you anon. xx

  1. Hey Loo, Love your new curtain! I made a patchwork doiley curtain for our glass kitchen door years ago and have old table clothes on our windows - the Mr always grumbles that people who visit will think we are poor as we don't have proper curtains...I think they are so much prettier! Enjoy your trip away, Tam x

  4. Odd? There is nothing odd about it! It's beautiful Loo, that's what it is! How lovely with the sun shining through - it shows-off those pretty table cloths to perfection. So much nicer than leaving them shoved in the third drawer down. I love the little man doing the highland fling x

  13. I love that curtain, so pretty! There are so many beautifully embroidered tray cloths about that no one wants to use for their original purpose anymore, it's wonderful to put them to good use so they can be seen and admired once again. Love, Mrs RV x

    1. I really like how you placed the cloths together, their prints appear to be in a natural sequence.
Ahh, love ones, they burst your high creative moments and I think that a Holland holiday would make anyone more relax.
      Have a lovely weekend,

  19. Well I think it's adorable... So when they complain just stick your fingers in your ears and loudly exclaim "FA LA FA LA LA LA LA"...
I've actually seen other things like this with bits and pieces of pattern and I believe that the whole point is to make it look a bit "old", as that's the style, vintage is completely in!
    I like it!

By the way I just wanted to say thank you for calling in - you were one of the first (and only) people to visit my blog and I thank you kindly for that. I have nearly stopped blogging many time but come back from the brink (drama Queen...)

  36. Great idea sewing all these embroidered cloths together! Look at that masterpiece hanging on your window! Using the extra embroidered cloths you have as a curtain shows how resourceful you are. A fine job you did here!
