Vintage sheets

Contrary to popular opinion (well, popular opinion in my house anyway), I have not been spending my time stroking my little collection of vintage sheets.

Nor have I been inhaling their newly washed aroma of sheer loveliness.

Nor burying my head in them, emitting frenzied yelps of joy.

Nor have I been whispering sweet nothings to them. You know how you do?

You see, dear readers, I've been busy cutting them.

 Into squares.

To make a patchwork duvet cover.

Evidence:

Snippings.  I almost can't bear to throw them away.  What am I like!
Actual squares:

This beauty is going to be the backing:

Only another 60 squares to go *gulp*.

See you in a while....xxx

  2. You're weird. It's official. But I like weird people, so that's OK!

  3. It's going to be a beauty Loo. I love the third and fourth sheet most especially. Glad you showed evidence - I would never have believed you were cutting them otherwise! They do look lovely all stacked up, but they are going to be even nicer when you turn them into a duvet cover. Do you think you'll have it finished in time for Chrissy?

  14. I've never seen such gorgeous sheets - wherever do they come from?
I'm about to make my first quilt - a "rag quilt" from old flannel. I've been buying old pyjamas and robes from thrift stores. It's harder than I thought to come up with a pattern. Any hints/secrets?

  15. It's going to look absolutely Awesome! I'm a Fabric Artist... and it takes a certain amount of temporary insanity for me to cut up some of the Vintage Fabrics that I am loathe to hack to make a Creation out of... but every so often, I go quite insane and the end results are definitely worth the sacrifice made! Hope you will Share the end result of this Vintage Sheet Inspired Duvet you will be Creating?! PLEASE... Blessings from the Arizona Desert... Dawn... The Bohemian

  17. wow. I think it will be gorgeous when it's finished, can't wait to see it. I'm sure it took a lot of courage to cut the sheets up, it took me years to pluck up enough courage to cut into my grandmother's curtains....but I'm so glad I did :)

  27. Lovely 'clashiness' - perfecto. I use the teeny tiny scraps for lighting the fire!!! We also have lots of old sheets but use them as old sheets! Who knew - those ones from the 70s are particularly hard wearing I find.
    Looking forward to the 'reveal'
    Best wishes
